Environmental and climate protection is a key component of business strategies at Siemens. The company runs its business in the areas of energy technology and climate protection to address global issues such as global warming and climate change. Siemens provides energy-ef ficient products and solutions ranging from household appliances, transportation, power generation, power transmission, power dist ribut ion, and industrial facilities to logistics.

Siemens expects annual growth from the environmental portfolio to total about ten percent over the next few years and intends to generate some ¢æ25 billion with the CO2 savings of total approximately 275 million tons in 2011. In addition, it has set itself a goal to cut its greenhouse gas emissions between 2006 and 2011 by 20% relative to revenue at its plants and locations and launched a new environmental program for its production facilities worldwide.

Siemens has made a continuous investment in developing eco-friendly and energy efficient technologies to reduce greenhouse gases and mitigate climate change. In fact, it has spent more than 50% of R&D expense, or ¢æ2 billion for related technologies and hold around 30,000 patents on environmental and climate relevant solutions. Simply applying Siemens¡¯ leading technologies on climate protection can reduce CO2 emissions by 10 billion tons, an amount equal to 40% of the current level by 2050.

Efficient Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP)
CCPP is a next-generation power plant with the efficiency level up to over 60%, capable of reducing 40,000 tons of CO2 compared to existing plant

Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle Plant (IGCC)
Zero CO2 fossil-based power plants through Carbon Capture and Storage with the development of IGCC and CO2 refinery technology

Wind Turbine Systems
Worldwide Siemens 6,400 wind turbines help to reduce approximately 10 million tons of CO2 annually

High Voltage Direct Current Transmission
Characterized by enhanced reliability, lower energy consumption and reduced space requirements thanks to laser-pulsed power converters and 80% fewer components in the electronic control system

Innovative Drive Systems
With its light weight materials and energy recovery during braking, there are up to 40% fewer emissions and up to 50% less fuel consumption

Intelligent Traffic Management
Traffic control and telematic solutions minimize traffic jams and reduce unnecessary energy consumption and cut CO2 emissions by up to 20%

Energy-Saving Contracting
Energy - saving contracting to about 6,500 buildings projects worldwide with guaranteed savings of around ¢æ1 billion as well as CO2 reduction of 2.4 million tons

Energy-Saving Lighting from OSRAM
Energy saving LEDs operate up to 50-times longer and use about 80% less electricity. Over service life of an energy-saving lamp, CO2 emissions cut by 0.5 tons and hundreds of euros in costs saved
