Environmental and climate protection is a key component of business strategies at Siemens. The company runs its business in the areas of energy technology and climate protection to address global issues such as global warming and climate change. Siemens provides energy-efficient products and solutions ranging from household appliances, transportation, power generation, power transmission, power distribution, and industrial facilities to logistics.
Siemens expects annual growth from the environmental portfolio to total about ten percent over the next few years and intends to generate some €25 billion with the CO₂savings of total approximately 275 million tons in 2011. In addition, it has set itself a goal to cut its greenhouse gas emissions between 2006 and 2011 by 20% relative to revenue at its plants and locations and launched a new environmental program for its production facilities worldwide.
Siemens has made a continuous investment in developing eco-friendly and energy efficient technologies to reduce greenhouse gases and mitigate climate change. In fact, it has spent more than 50% of R&D expense, or €2 billion for related technologies and hold around 30,000 patents on environmental and climate relevant solutions. Simply applying Siemens’ leading technologies on climate protection can reduce CO₂emissions by 10 billion tons, an amount equal to 40% of the current level by 2050.
