Process Industries and Drives Division, Large Drives Business Unit (PD LD) of Siemens Ltd. Seoul (SLS) held Asian Sales Workshop of Traction Drives - Electric Commercial Vehicle (TD ECV), known as Hybrid Drives for electric buses (eBus), on March 2 - 3 at Poongsan Building with 9 participants from Germany, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Korea. Since ECV business began in 2008, PD LD has supplied around 121 systems for eBus for the last 10 years and currently, 42 buses are already in service in 8 different cities in Korea. The workshop was held to introduce and share the country specific business environment, rules and regulation, government subsidy protocol, technical requirement, and the area to cooperate regionally. “Through this workshop, roadmap to produce Permanent Magnet Motor (PEM) in China, and plans to include Battery management Systems (BMS) in product portfolio has been established in order to take a more important role in the business ecosystem,” said Mr. Eugen Holl, Head of TD ECV. Furthermore, Digital Factory ? Factory Automation Division is actively interacting with Korea battery manufacturers to source Korean battery cells for application to Siemens battery packs in TD EVC. “Siemens holds a market share for more than 90% so far and by looking at the government eBus subsidiary scheme of 100M KRW per vehicle by capping 100 buses in a year, we expect more expansion in the business in the coming year,” said Mr. Dieter Schletterer, Head of Digital Factory Division and Process Industries & Drives Division of SLS.
