Seoul (www.siemens.co.kr) today held a press conference at the Westin Chosun Hotel, Sogong-dong Seoul, to celebrate the appointment of Dr. JongKap Kim as Chairman and CEO of Siemens Ltd. Seoul.
Siemens Ltd. Seoul, which has appointed a Korean CEO for the first time in its 60 years history in Korea, introduced its core business sectors and portfolio, as well as announced its future plans and ambitions to become an authentic ‘Korean company’. Siemens has been a provider of state-of-the-art products, solutions and services in the Industry, Energy, and Healthcare Sectors as well the newly established Infrastructure & Cities, establishing itself as a leader in these areas through superior technology and continuous innovation.
Dr. JongKap Kim, who will be responsible for overseeing all Business Sectors for Siemens Ltd. Seoul, announced that he plans to achieve 2-digit growth every year by having each Sector establish itself as the market leader in its own areas. He also added that he will prepare high ethical and legal standards for the company to follow, and comply with ‘sustainable’ codes of conduct, contributing to environmental protection and local community development.
In addition, he promised to exert continuous effort to generate value for its customers by expanding into the global market in collaboration with Korean corporations, while promoting localization strategies that take advantage of Korea’s strengths. He went on to explain that through such efforts, Siemens Ltd. Seoul will comply with Siemens Headquarters’ strategic decision to establish closer relationships with clients, while developing new businesses for highly profitable growth.
Dr. Kim, Chairman and CEO of Siemens Ltd. Seoul said, “Siemens has developed in hand with Korea’s economic and industrial development over the last 60 some years since it first participated in the national rebuilding project following the Korean War”, adding, “Siemens will now be reborn as an authentic Korean company in order to increase opportunities for Korean companies to target the international market, as well as increasing added value and employment in Korea through invigorating R&D and manufacturing activities in the country.”
Dr. JongKap Kim received his BA and Ph.D degrees in Public Administration at Sung Kyun Kwan University, Seoul, and an MBA from New York University Graduate School of Business. He also received his MA degree in Economics and is a Ph.D candidate in Economics at Indiana University Graduate School. After passing the 17th National High Civil Service Examination in 1975, he has served as the deputy minister of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy(MOCIE), commissioner of the Korea Intellectual Property Office, and vice minister of MOCIE. After three years as CEO at Hynix Semiconductor Inc. starting from 2007, Dr. Kim has served as its executive chairman for the past year.
