A global powerhouse in electrical engineering and electronics, with innovative environmental caring technology and transparent business management, Siemens Ltd. Seoul (JongKap Kim, Chairman & CEO, www.siemens.co.kr) hosted an ‘Eco Camp’ on August 20th on Nami Island in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province. A total of 160 people, including the children of single parents sponsored by ‘Siemens Caring Hands-Ai SaRang Kikeum’, Siemens employees and their families, and JongKap Kim, Chairman & CEO of Siemens Ltd. Seoul, participated in the event.
This year’s theme was ‘Siemens Eco Camp’ in order to provide children with an opportunity to receive interesting and useful environmental education. The camp, organized into three sections; ‘green energy education’, ‘eco camp’, and ‘green energy camp’, was designed to teach children the value of nature and the importance of taking action through various experiences.
At the beginning of the camp, the children attended a simple education on green energy and the theory behind it, as well as looked at how green energy is being used today. Following this, the children were then taken to the Eco Camp where they were shown how what was once regarded as garbage can be recycled into useful resources. Here the children were taught the preciousness of nature and the importance of preserving the environment, as well as methods regarding how they can participate in preserving the environment. Siemens increased children’s interest and participation through various missions and activities, such as taking ‘pictures of proof’ at Nami islands’ multiple recycling facilities and solving quizzes about animals and recycled material. Lastly, during the Green Energy Camp, the children made eco-flower pots using scrap material, with everyone joining together to complete an eco-sculpture that will be exhibited on Nami Island.
Dr. JongKap Kim, Chairman & CEO of Siemens Ltd. Seoul, said, “Korea’s sustainable future begins with educating our children, who will lead the next generation in regards to the value and importance of preserving the environment” adding, “Siemens will continue to provide our future leaders with valuable eco-education opportunities and lead the establishment of a sustainable future.”
